"Why Just Reading the National Eletrical Codebook is a Waste of Time"

Here’s a simple and interesting demonstration of how futile it is to just sit down and read the NEC codebook.

Let’s say you are able to read 100 words per minute with a reasonable amount of comprehension in doing so. You decide to dedicate 2 hours per day towards reading. You start at the beginning in the introduction. Note how long it takes before your thoughts begin to wander. Then take notice of how much you actually UNDERSTAND of what it is you are reading.

There are very few pictures to explain much. Now compound these two factors with the fatigue that sitting comfortably will bring, after a long hard day, and you have the perfect formula for an effective sleep aid! Your retention rate is 10% after 24 hours and less than 1% after one week. There are approximately 400,000 words in the code book (a rough estimate). If you read at 100 words per minute it will take you about 70 continuous hours to read the entire book. No one can read for 70 continuous hours, however, so you decide that 2 hours a day will work for you. It would then take 35 days to read the codebook if you never missed a day or didn’t fall asleep while reading.

Unfortunately your retention rate would only be about 1%. But we’ll give you ten times that and say you can remember 10%. That means you would probably have to read the codebook ten times in order to remember 100% (which, or course, would never happen). If you had to read the codebook ten times, it would take you almost a full year to absorb enough information to be of use to you! Now tell me, who wants to read the codebook even once? We believe there IS a much better way. It’s found here at this site.(add links)
